Turning Setbacks into Stepping Stones
Embracing Failures, Growth, and Purpose
As youth animators, we also need to be nurtured and formed in our faith to become better Christians in our daily lives. You cannot give to others if you are not first spiritually equipped yourself. This has always been the purpose of organizing a one-day retreat for all youth animators in Gozo. The timing of this retreat—just before Holy Week—is intentional, as it helps us prepare for this significant period.
Mons. Carmelo Refolo Rapa will lead the retreat on April 12th at the San Lawrenz Parish Hall. The retreat will begin at 9:00am and conclude at 4:00pm, with a lunch break in between.
During the retreat, Mons. Carmelo will reflect on a passage from the Gospel of Luke, in which Jesus proclaims “the year of the Lord’s favor.” Using four key verbs from Jesus’ own words, he will guide us in understanding Christ’s mission among us. The passage also highlights how Jesus’ proclamation was not accepted by everyone, leading Him to face moments of challenge and rejection.
Following this passage from Luke, Mons. Carmelo will take us on a journey to help us make sense of our own struggles and failures while encouraging us to persevere in our mission of serving youth.
All youth animators are encouraged to register. A €5 donation will be requested upon registration. For lunch, we will visit a nearby restaurant, where each participant will choose and pay for their own meal.

Echoes of World Youth Day Lisbon
There was in total a group of 30 Gozitans, for the World Youth Day (WYD) in Portugal. The group was composed of pilgrims coming from different backgrounds, between the ages of 15 and 59 years. Some pilgrims were part of a youth group, others joined by themselves. Uniting and guiding the group there was the spiritual leader H.E. Mons. Anton Teuma who apart from delivering a catechesis to the Gozitan and Maltese in Portugal, humbly, throughout the week sustained the pilgrims with his words.
